A Pretty Good Place to Be

mothering n. bring up (a child) with care and affection: the art of mothering

Mothering competes with optimism just about any day of the week at my house. I struggle mightily to keep my emotions in check whilst little ones let theirs fly. I wear myself out keeping life simple and routine oriented to facilitate calm and order for my children. Sometimes it feels like I live with wild beasts, but children with short fuses often have short memories of the chaos they create. At day's end my husband reminds me, "He let it go, you let it go. Remember the good things about today."

I also read Pastor Andy's blog, One Eternal Presence, which included "The Optimist Creed." His timing could not have been better. I am copying it here for you, maybe you need it too:

Promise Yourself...
  • To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
  • To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
  • To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
  • To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
  • To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
  • To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
  • To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
  • To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
  • To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
  • To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
I cite this not to diminish the emotional roller coaster I go on some days, but because to be a good mother I have to let go of the pain- gently, without remorse, as if a child, or it saps my peace of mind. So let me show you how my day ended:
Roman Moose

Cowgirl Mule
So my world isn't perfect, but it is a pretty good place to be, and we are a day closer to a favorite day around here. In case you don't know, good things happen on Halloween, really good things.
