I poke through blogs from time to time, particularly in search of writing inspiration or to explore how others use the medium. A few are popular and so I rarely think to share things from them. However, tonight, outside, the wind is driving the rain into the sides of the house. It sounds like buckets of water are pouring continuously onto the patio and there is a rhythmic thunk, thunk to the heavy drips that punctuate the sounds of a nearby typhoon. Inside, I am cool and thinking how beautiful the sound of a rainstorm is when one is safe inside. I thought share anyway.
Here are the blog inspirations, in the order that I read them, with the links. Maybe they will inspire you too. The first one is by a marketing business guy who consistently keeps it human, the second one is by a designer who always offers lots of neat links. I like them both, maybe you know of them, maybe not. Take a look.
The 15 Things Charles and Ray Eames Teach Us
01. Keep good company
02. Notice the ordinary
03. Preserve the ephemeral
04. Design not for the elite but for the masses
05. Explain it to a child
06. Get lost in the content
07. Get to the heart of the matter
08. Never tolerate “O.K. anything.”
09. Remember your responsibility as a storyteller
10. Zoom out
11. Switch
12. Prototype it
13. Pun
14. Make design your life… and life, your design.
15. Leave something behind.

Keith Yamashita, in the essay noted above, wrote, "Tops, a film the Eameses completed in 1969, is the one that will mesmerize you." I had to find it. The simplicity of motion and a child's toy entertains.
